Enrollment for Alex Pilis’ workshop open

Notes  - Redação 28b

Enrollments are now open for the "Appear-Disappear" workshop that Alexander Pilis is putting together as part of 28th Bienal’s official program. It’s an interdisciplinary initiative with participation of 30 students and 8 guest speakers.

"This investigation aims to discuss how we see and how we think we see different viewpoints and to produce a series of documents, videos and publications,” tells the artist. Eight thematic groups will be formed from the enrolment of the students in different fields of study. The groups are: reflection/refraction, literature, optics, model, typology, illusion/allusion, memory/amnesia, and register.

Those wishing to participate in the workshop should send their resume or portfolio by October 15 to the e-mail 28bienal@gmail.com. The workshop will be held from October 25 through December 6, when the speakers will deliver a final presentation.

Speakers include Agnaldo Farias (Architecture School USP), Guilherme Wisnik (Architecture critic), Gilberto Xavier (Biosciences School USP), José Luís Ortega (Physics School USP), Luís Carlos de Menezes (Physics School USP), Norvall Baitello Jr. (Semiotics School PUC), Peter Pál Pelbart (Philosophy School PUC), and Oswaldo Pessoa Jr. (Philosophy School USP).

Alexander Pilis is a Brazilian-Canadian artist and lives and works in Barcelona, where he teaches at the Politécnica de Catalunya - Metrópolis and Pompeu Fabra – Public Space. His projects are based on the Parallax Architecture theorem, a construct which incorporates several viewpoints in order to articulate the displacement of an object when its observation point is altered. Pilis had his theoretical and practical works published internationally and held exhibitions in Canada, Germany, UK, USA, Spain, Mexico, and Brazil. He participated in the 19th and 25th Bienal de São Paulo.
