Guided tours

Carlos Navarrete shows Matt Mullican’s work of art on the third floor.
At 5 pm today, the Chilean artist, Carlos Navarrete, gave the first of his four guided tours through the 28th Bienal de São Paulo, a practice which before becoming part of his work for this Bienal’s edition was a family thing. Since 1991, the artist has brought his aunts, uncles and cousins, who moved to Brazil in the 1970’s, to visit the Bienal exhibitions. Seven Bienals later, these visits became part of Navarrete’s work, and he’s been guiding visitors through the Square, Open Plan, and the Plan of Readings making criticisms of and observations on the exhibition.
As well as the guided tours, the Chilean artist has his own installation on the third floor, the Archivo Personal. It is a collection of his memories and experiences of São Paulo, which he put together during his visits to the city since 1985. The work took four months to complete and Navarrete found a neat way of organizing and presenting to the public a series of photographs, maps, newspapers, coins, tokens, and souvenirs he collected as a means to show the “transformations undergone by the city, Bienal and my family over a 23-year period,” states Navarrete.
There will be three other guided tours given by Carlos Navarrete:
Sunday, November 2, 11 am
Saturday, November 8, 5 pm
Sunday, November 8, 11 am
