BACKSTAGE is a privileged and original platform for the discussion of the globalization of the system of Biennials:
Privileged as it will gather, in frank and open conversation, various representatives of international agencies and institutions which traditionally support the participation of their national artists in Biennials around the world and should, therefore, be acknowledged as core agents of this system.
Original as, despite their relevance for the economy of the Biennials, these agencies and institutions are seldom invited to explain and discuss their focus of action, their medium and long-term strategies, their geopolitical choices and the socio-economic factors that influence their decisions.
Partcipants: Minister Sergio Alberto Baur (Assistant Director of Cultural Affairs – Cancillería Argentina), Marta Kuzma (Director of the Office for Contemporary Art – OCA, Norway), Emilio Lamarca (Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Chile), Iris Lenz (Deputy Head of the Visual Arts Department of the Institute for Foreign Cultural Relations – IFA, Germany), Gitta Luiten (Director of the Mondriaan Foundation, Netherlands), Annette Osterby (Director of the Danish Arts Agency – The Visual Arts Centre, Denmark), Stephen Rimmer (Operational Director of the British Council in Brazil, Great Britain), Marketta Seppala (Director of the Finnish Fund for Art Exchange - FRAME, Finland), Ann-Sofi Noring (Deputy Director and Chief Curator of the Moderna Museet, Sweden) and Ana Tomé (Director of the Cultural Centre of Spain in São Paulo Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation).
